Hey, world!
This time I asked a few questions to another one of our Rust Dev— Bart!

Who are you, Bart?

Father of three wonderful kids, Rust Apostol, and a board game geek. I co-organize the Rust Wrocław group, and I was a part of the Rusty Days organizers crew. I’ve been working for over a decade in the system programming area, and for the last ~5 years, I do it almost exclusively using Rust. I am not only a developer — I am also devoted to spreading Rust knowledge, conducting trainings, being involved in the community, and so on.

What do you do in Confio?

Mostly developing Smart Contracts, but also the CosmWasm ecosystem itself.
Besides that I am trying to bring the best Rust habits to the team, however, it is not too much to do here — we have really good quality awareness. My personal focus working on CosmWasm is to provide easy to use intuitive API. This is because I believe that it reduces technical dept on the earliest of stages and saves tons of time in the future.

Could you describe what your work is like at Confio?

It is transparent and this is the best description. I work fully remotely, with
fully flexible working hours. Sometimes I feel like finishing the work at night or weekend, on the other hand, I can play games with my kids in the middle of the day. I feel no pressure as long as I am doing my job and helping others when they need my help (so I am just available on Slack). Other times it is hard to tell if I am at work or not — I play something in the evening but I just figured out the solution to my project and I implement it. Easy. The work is transparent but in a good way (I am not working 24/7).

What have you learned with Confio?

First of all this job helped me to grow as a Rust developer. Recently I had
an opportunity to work on a kind of complicated procedural macro, so I learned this topic deeply, as before I did one or two simple macros and I didn’t really face most of the problems I am facing now. However besides technicals — I am very happy to have this opportunity to learn and understand blockchain and DeFi in general. I find this market very interesting.
In general — I have a better awareness of the business I am working
on than in any project I was working on before.

Also, Confio gave me a really valuable perspective on how to run a very good functioning company and team. In my over a decade of work experience, here the processes are exceptional in the sense, that they are not disturbing anyone.

They obviously are here, but unless you think about them you don’t even see them.

What do you like about working at Confio in General?

I think I already answered the question — the transparency of it in my life. On one hand, it is so interesting, that I sometimes work on it at night because
I am bored. On the other hand — processes which don’t disturb my work.
Also, a really small amount of any kind of meetings, and those which are there are actually useful. I basically cannot find a single thing I can think of I don’t
like here. Sure — there are always some things I might do differently. But it doesn’t mean that I don’t like the approach taken here. In the worst case, I don’t care.
