Still being a young company, Confio had the opportunity to already bring one of our first benefits to our Spanish employees. We proposed an annual agreement, so our Spanish employees have the opportunity to take a paid leave if they have sick children below the age of 12 years at home.

How does it work?

You get a certain amount of paid leave days depending on the following variables:

  • Number of children under the age of 12
  • Single parent status

The max. possible days of paid leave is 130 days for the year 2022 for a single parent with more than 2 children.
If your child gets sick, you get a doctor’s note and confirm, that there is nobody else to supervise the child during the illness and you are off the hook.

Why the age restriction?

The cutoff at the age of 12 stems from German legislation, which stems from popular theories like Piaget’s theory of the 4 stages of cognitive development. That is also why children with disabilities are exempt from the age restriction.

Who is this benefit for?

All employees who have successfully completed their probation period get this benefit by default. This way, there is one thing less to worry about, if the employee finds out, that parenthood awaits them.

Why did we introduce this?

Having a sick child at home, decreases performance and focus, as they need attention and guidance. Claiming someone should have the same output with a child at home as to having no child at home, is unreasonable to say at least.
Since in modern society most people live without their parents or other relatives nearby, there is no one to assist in supervising a sick child. This can be very problematic since all of us get paid to think and therefore need to be able to create a train of thought. Especially since the number of two-earner households in Spain has nearly doubled over the last 20 years. We want to provide a solution for this social problem and improve our employer brand recognition in Spain. Since we are always looking for exceptional talent, we want to offer benefits, aiming at real problems of everyday life. We believe throwing benefits like an expensive car at an employee doesn’t solve anything and is just a desperate, ignorant and unsustainable measure of an unempathetic employer.
