Striving To Have The Best Of Both Worlds

Meet me. Or, better yet, read my story. It has been full of twists and turns. I used to be a pharmacist, a photographer, and a travel enthusiast. Now I am working as a content creator for Confio GmbH and loving every second.

The struggle between a desire to travel and the need to work has always been challenging. So what do you do when you’re a devoted traveler and your 9–5 job needs you at your desk daily? Do you give up on your office job, or do you give up on your dreams to explore? What if you don’t want to let go of any of them? How can one have the best of both worlds — you might wonder.

I was in the same situation a few years back, circa 2018. I was drained by a regular job, exhausting myself, thinking about work even after leaving it, and sometimes even bringing the weight of work home with me. I was torn between my need to work and my desire to travel.

Cut to the current day; my life has changed dramatically from what it was not long ago. I now work as a remote Content Creator and consider myself blessed to have actual freedom every day. There’s nothing more liberating and stimulating for a travel enthusiast than the ability to live and work from any place on earth. And I genuinely mean ANYWHERE (with decent internet, obviously)!

But this opportunity was not easy to find!

It was after applying for several job opportunities (from companies where I had some background and prior expertise) and being said the same over and over again (okay, the words may differ): “We’re sorry to inform you but due to the fact that your country of residence is not part of the EU we can’t offer you any position in our company/organization.”

Fast forward to some months ago when I found out about Confio. At first, I was hesitant about whether I should apply or not because it felt so out of my league (we’re talking about a world of developers and blockchain here, stuff that I almost didn’t know what it meant). Still, there was this inner voice that persisted I should try out, and perhaps I’d end up learning something new. Guess what? This is precisely what happened! (and continues because every day, I’m learning something new and understanding a bit more than before. Yay me!)

We could say that Confio got me out of my comfort zone! But you know what? I am so excited that I was able to do all these things … as well as learn about blockchain along the way. Now I am happy that I did go for it! Here’s why:

First of all, it’s a remote company. You work in an international environment. The team members are highly professional and friendly at the same time. You get to educate yourself on topics you love. There is a healthy work-life balance (which is rare nowadays). On a more personal note, even though it’s a company with mostly men, there is no gender discrimination.

I consider myself extremely lucky to be working with such a team at such a company and from anywhere in the world, which currently is my home country.
