MAW Songwriting Project

Our Master of Arts in Worship program is one of the most exciting and fastest growing area in the School of Church Music at Southwestern. The combination of engaging students, many who are serving God in full-time capacities in churches and other religious organizations, with a concentrated time of study facilitates an environment where creative ideas can flow.

In addition to our in-depth study of the music of the church this Winter term, a small group of our students gathered in the evenings to explore songwriting for the church. Kimberly Williams, Alan Yarbrough, and Kyle Spencer set Philippians 2:5–11 to music and the results are fantastic. Below you can find a video recording with the music and lyrics, as well as a chord chart for you to use this song in your churches.

This song, birthed from scripture and a desire to connect the church with its historic song, is worth singing in your congregation and sharing widely.
