That rejoicing you hear are all the Netflix users who have been waiting for the android platform to finally receive the Netflix awesomeness that iOS and WindowsMobile 7 users have been bragging about for a while now.

But, the catch?

Yeah, there is one.

Not all android phones do or will be supported.

Compatible devices include the HTC Incredible, the HTC Nexus One, the HTC Evo 4G, HTC G2 and the Samsung Nexus S.

“In the absence of standardization, we have to test each individual handset and launch only on those that can support playback,” according to the blog post. #huffpo

Check the android Marketplace or the Netflix blog for more details on supported handsets.

UPDATE: Netflix Android Launch Blog post taken down?

Interestingly, just as the web is all a flutter about Netflix on android, the official blog post on the matter from Netflix is missing.

An error? Something slipped through review channels? The blog is hosted on Blogspot… maybe there are system issues there?

I don’t know if there were more posts on the blog in May, but any/all posts on the blog since April 19th are missing:

The URL for the post was http://blog.netflix.com/2011/05/normal-0-false-false-false-en-us-x-none.html after all. Nobody saw SEO problems with this?
