The Gerona team used many of the tram clips we shot to connect the other clips we shot, a good illustration of the bustling and modern side of Melbourne. The background music used is also light and passionate, which can make people feel the vitality of Melbourne. The connection of the tram to other clips also indirectly demonstrates the convenience of Melbourne’s public transport to attract the attention of national students. The video also includes many of Melbourne’s natural scenery to attract the attention of international students, which shows that Melbourne is a city where nature and modern construction
Although the Gerona team shows some of the modern and prosperous features of Melbourne through some of the clips we provide, this is still a little different from my experience in Melbourne. In my memorys, Melbourne is not only a modern metropolis, but also a city full of long history and culture. In addition to the various modern and tall buildings in Melbourne, you can also see the ancient church full of art. Similarly, Melbourne is a fast-paced city in the Gerona group’s film, but in my impression, Melbourne also has a leisurely and clean slow life. Brunch is one of the representative thing of Melbourne’s leisure life and it shows Melbourne is not a city with only fast-paced and crowds. Although the Girona group is slightly different from what we think of Melbourne, there are still many common features we both have. For example, Melbourne is a bustling city with convenient transportation.
After sharing ideas about how to represent Melbourne city and Gerona. We decided to choose a particular place to connect two cities which is the river. In Melbourne we have Yarra River. After Skype conversation with Gerona group. We knew that they have Onyar River in their city. It is as if the river were connected to the city by a gigantic umbilical cord. Onyar River is stretch across Gerona city. Students in Gerona said they need to cross the river on their way to the university. Their daily life is close connect with Onyar River. In Melbourne, things are a little bit different. Yarra River is a quiet and pleasant place. In our film, we are trying to produce a journey from Melbourne city to Yarra River. Getting out of the comfort zone, escaping from the crowded city.
Our film were make up with many exterior shots about Melbourne city. Beside that, we include some personal shots about one character. To representing a personal journey from crowded city to a peaceful river. As if we were actually taking tram on a journey. So there were many scenes took on tram. On the one hand, we produced the first part of our film is constituted with close shots and medium shots about the busy and crowded city. On the other hand, our second part of the film is basically long shots and swim shots about the river sightseeing. We were trying to represent the qualities of the city by comparing crowded centre of the city with quiet and peaceful river.
