Which is our perception of Melbourne? It is a tricky question considering that we have never been to Melbourne or Australia. Even so, we can figure a global image. To start, we have to say that Melbourne is not the most famous city in Australia, because the most popular is Sydney. The information we receive from Australia is a lot smaller than the United States, even so, via Instagram we follow some famous people, that helps to make that image of the country.
About our general perception of Australia, we imagine it as a dangerous place, where a lot of animals are poisonous. Also it is known as the land of kangaroos and koalas, that are beautiful but aggressive animals. And is the only place in the world where the saltwater crocodile exists. We think of Australians as tall people with blond hair, green or brown eyes and always tanned, as surfers. For us, a curious thing about Australia is the way they use the maps upside down, so they put the North at the bottom of the map and the South on the top.
From our point of view, Melbourne is known for the sports. Lot of important sport events in Australia take place in this city. For example, every year the first grand prix of Formula 1 is in the circuit of Albert Park. Also, Moto GP is carried out in the circuit of Phillip Island. We also know Sally Pearson, the two time world champion and gold and silver medalist at the Olympics in the 100 m hurdles. Every time she has to leave her city and go to another one, she goes by the airplane, so we made the conclusion that everything is far away.
We agree that people who live in Melbourne have a very good quality of life. In general, they have a good purchasing level, and they earn lot of money. The minimum salary is much higher than in Spain, but we think that everything is more expensive too. For that, lot of young adventurers from all over the world goes to Melbourne to have a life experience, get to know a new culture, save money and study. For that reason, Melbourne is a city where lot of cultures live together. We also coincide that the city has good education.
Our specific image of Melbourne, is that is a very big city with a combination of high buildings, as every city has, and big houses with gardens. We have in mind a quiet town, with a slow rhythm, and not as stressful as New York or Barcelona. We imagine it as a sunny place.
To conclude, Melbourne, in our head, is green and blue. Green for the fauna and flora and the parks, and blue for the water of the lakes and sea. Someday, we would like to go there to visit this wonderful place.
