Our perception of Melbourne

First of all, we have to admit that our perception of melbourne is pretty close as the perception we have of Australia. We have developed this perception thanks to the information obtained through social networks. So, technology like television helps to create a perception of what they are trying to sell you, one of the best cities to live in the world.

When it comes to our mind the name of Melbourne, what we can visualize is big infrastructures. Big towers that stand out when you see them in the skyline. People who live there they seems happy and well placed at an economic level, seems due to it offers a good life quality to the population that lives in big independent houses or in luxurious private flats in the middle of the city.

We imagine a downtown central with amount of skyscraper with offices and a lot of shops, shopping centres and people doing tourism and business even universities, cinemas, theatres and others leisure business, but then, all the rest of the city that we find around the centre might be quiet urbanizations with wide roads, luxury houses, long gardens and schools for kids.

In the centre must be all kind of people, a lot of tourism of around the world, business mans and women wearing suits and expensive clothes but surfers, bickers, mums and kids in all type of clothes and fashion young people, like in all big cities.

Another point, related to the city, is the painted streets. Because exist a big movement of street art there. Also, the views of the beach, with it’s beautiful sea and beaches it seems a perfect place to live, and good weather that encourage you to spend the day on the street like practice outdoor sports and attend cultural events of the place.

Furthermore, we also have the perception that it is a friendly, open-minded city, with great cultural diversity, therefore Melbourne has another attractive, that is nightlife, if you wanna go there with your friends to have fun during the night.

Like Simon Anholt says in his article, the image of a place that you don’t know, not depends only about what you know about it but what you like or what you miss in your place.. Then we imagine long beaches with white sand and blue water and a centre with many people shopping and doing business because is what we miss in our country and what we have seen in other countries we like.
