The first exchange of information about the two cities was to know us, to give information about Girona and Melbourne and transform the perception we had about the two cities. So in that point, we already knew the rhythm of the cities, the culture, and the philosophy of the cities. Once we shared our footage, we faced everything we thought about Melbourne and view with our own eyes the reality of the city without any distortion of the media.

A lot of times we talk about the cities through part of the bodies, in particular with the heart. We all know the expression of “Home is where the heart is”. Magnus and Tal have made a short film with the aim of showing the heart of the two cities and making a connexion between the cities and the human bodies. They are students of Professional and Media Communication so they a lot of time to develop and think carefully what they wanted to show, how and with what goal. Their video shows the movement of the cities using a comparison between them. They wanted to show the motion of the cities finding their differences and show Melbourne as a pumpin city and Girona as a quiet one.

On the other hand, our video is made with the goal of showing that, even the two cities are different and miles apart, they have a lot of things in common that can be found on the majority of cities as parks, rivers, buildings, houses, quiet streets and noisy ones, and the magic of the streets. For doing that, we used the split screen to show different places from the two cities that can be related between them.

What is the connexion between Girona and Melbourne? We agreed that they are liveable cities, they are like a neighborhood. Two quiet cities to live, not as stressful as New York or Barcelona. They are cities where you don’t need to move to have a still rhythm of life. Melbourne is in a bubble of progression, while Girona is like a very big village that has a different rhythm depending the time of the day, the day of the week or the month of the year.

The expectation that the RMIT students had with Girona where already uncovered during the first talk. They saw that Girona is a quiet city with not a lot of people in the streets like in Melbourne. With the architecture footage the discovered that Girona is a mix of tradition and modern style. They were amazed with the views from the top of the University of Girona.

To conclude, we coincide that we all would like to fly through the other’s country and visit the cities and judge by ourselves. We would love to go to Australia and visit the most amazing cities like Melbourne, Canberra, Perth or Sydney. And they would like to come and visit Barcelona, of course, and come to Girona to walk around the city and discover the amazing places we have. The videos were a motivation to visit new places, get to know new cities and their magic places and connect the cities.
