Skype with Gerona 1

During the time we Skype with Gerona’s group. We found out that there are differences between reality and our imagination. For the first part, we all think about Gerona as a small town with strong cultural atmosphere. In fact, Gerona is a city that combines retro style building and modern construction. And one of them is living a hour bus tour away from university. So, it is obvious that Gerona is not a small town like we things about. Beside this, they said their university is near to the Gerona football stadium. The residents in Gerona are addicted to football. Which match our imagination. We also notice that the bus is the only transportation way in Gerona. Not like in Melbourne we can take diversity kind of transportation tools. One point that shocked us is they only have one class per semester. We are quite confused about that point. Anyway, it matched our imagination that Gerona is a pleasure place. As a university student in Gerona, they can enjoy their spare time and do something they like. Not under too much pressure from degrees. They used the word “silent” to describe when they were walking on streets in the city. But we were thinking that there should be many tourists. Overall, we will discover more details about Gerona in next Skype call. After the Skype meeting, we also found out the differences and similarities between Girona student’s imagination of Melbourne and our connection to Melbourne. For the differences, Girona students believe that there are wild animals and huge insect inside the Melbourne city, and Melbourne is a hazardous place compared to other big cities because of this. But actually, these kinds of animals are rarely seen in the central part of Melbourne. All of them are living outside of the city in the remote area of Melbourne. So, Melbourne is not an extremely dangerous city full of insects and wild animals in reality. Besides the animal, Girona student thought that Melbourne is a city with the only modern construction, but this is not true, there are some of the old traditional British styles building inside the city. In addition, Melbourne is a city that respects the culture of the aboriginal people; therefore, instead of saying Melbourne is a modern city, Melbourne is more like a combination of modern and traditional. However, we still have some similarities between the imagination and our connection. Girona students believe that Melbourne is a city near the ocean, and there is a harbor inside Melbourne. They are correct. Victoria harbor is a fantastic harbor which located in Dockland, Melbourne. After the conversation, I found out there are always some stereotypes of a city on the internet, which will make the people who haven’t visit the city to be confused. I’m glad that after this Skype meeting, we all know that some of the stereotypes are not true; we all know more about these two cities.
