The past day the 19th of november we had a meeting with our Melbourne’s partner, Grace and Melody, at 9 am, thanks to Skype. Firstly, we introduced ourselves and when we knew who was everyone, we started talking about our perceptions of Melbourne and Girona. We discovered that our perception of Melbourne was very different than how we imagined the city in our mind in first place.

Throughout our meeting, we talked about the culture in respective cities like “castellers” or the routine to take a coffee in Melbourne. Another topic was the typical food eaten in Girona and Spain.

In economic terms, we discovered that the money that people earn in Melbourne thanks to their jobs, is according to their type of lifestyle, that is more expensive than the one we have here in Spain. Our partners thought that the transport system in Girona was really similar to the one that a modern city like Barcelona has, for example with underground and train connecting all the city. Was surprising for us the fact that if they want to go to the beach and have a rest a little, they need to take a trip by plane that takes one hour. It was surprising because we thought that Melbourne was near to the sea.

Also, we want to highlight the fact that our perception of Melbourne talking about the buildings and the atmosphere of the city center, was really similar to reality. They explained us that the city has tall buildings and a very important economical activity.

If we talk about Girona, at the beginning our partners thought that the city center was like the one in Melbourne, but we told them that it’s not like what they imagined because the centrical parts of Girona are like an old town.

The topic of political affairs was also in our conversation, because we asked them if people in Melbourne was open-minded or not. They told us that the city center of Melbourne normally has people protesting about affairs that are not fair, so we take the conclusion that they have their minds opened. Taking advantage of that, we explained to our partners that the political situation that we have in Catalonia right now has forced us to go to streets and fight for our rights too.
