The NASDAQ index is now back to its 2000 pre-dotcom crash level at 5,000. The billion dollar question now for proponents of cycle-based economics, are we about to see a tech crash in 2015, an echo 15 years later of the 2000 dotcom crash. Reuters yesterday: “You’ve an entirely different make-up of stocks. Real earnings and revenue are driving the Nasdaq now,” said Douglas Depietro, managing director at Evercore ISI in New York. “Anything with a website went to $100 back then.”

Even though tech IPOs have been in fewer numbers and most tech companies are private and VC-financed, investors have been warning of froth in the tech sector. Today at Jason Calacanis’ LAUNCH Festival, Chris Sacca stated: “I think this whole Valley has gotten way ahead of itself, and I’m excited for the crash, and for all the pretenders to clear out and for the people who are the die-hards, the builders, (..), I can’t wait until it’s just them again,”.

This morning of March 3 the Dow has started to pull back, dropping 100 points

What is going to happen next ? Difficult to say but it will surely be a rocky ride !
