Songs of Remembrance

A poem

Photo by Amber Clark (Used by permission)

Is it a coincidence?
I don’t think so

I could make a playlist
first your song
then two of his -
songs of remembrance

the two of you
sitting there
in heaven
sending us
beams of love

just like I saw
in your eyes
at the end
with that angelic smile
telling me forever

your love is endless

And if I were to make that playlist, here it is. The first three songs played in a row. The other soon after and only reinforced the feeling of them being right there.

  • Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show (One of Mom’s favorites, though she argued for a different version)
  • Landslide by Fleetwood Mac (A son that played after my son died and always made me cry)
  • Hallelujah by Jason Castro (One of my son’s favorite songs, he had three versions in a playlist of his.)
  • I Will Remember by Sarah MacLachlan
