Douglas Rushkoff: Is Technology really a divider?

In Rushkoff’s interview with Colbert, Douglas Rushkoff argues that technology divides people. He states that we are constantly distracted by the advances technology. By no means is Rushkoff a luddite as seen in the video. However, he does raise an interesting point about how we are “taken out of the moment” as a result of the constant interruptions caused by technology.

A number of questions are raised regarding Rushkoff’s concerns regarding how serious the issue of technology is.

My only question: is the rapid expansion of technology necessarily a bad thing?
