World Harmony Peace Statue, Cardiff
After a wonderful visit to see my Auntie in Cardiff, Wales I was delighted to come across this statue.
It is called World Harmony Peace Statue and was unveiled 11 March 2012.
The World Harmony Peace statue was presented by the World Harmony Run to the city of Cardiff in the 25th anniversary year of the World Harmony Run.
The words on the plaque aside the statue include a quote: “Peace is not merely the absence of war. Peace is the dynamic and energetic presence of love, harmony and oneness in the world family” — Sri Chinmoy.
I had not heard of this Indian spiritual master before but have since learnt that he taught meditation in the West after moving to New York City in 1964. Chinmoy established his first meditation centre in New York, and eventually had thousands of students in 60 countries. He was a prolific author, artist, poet, and musician, he also held public events such as concerts and meditations on the theme of inner peace. Chinmoy also advocated athleticism to achieve spiritual enlightenment, including distance running, swimming, and weightlifting. He organized marathons and other races, and was an active runner and, following a knee injury, weightlifter.
I have once again spontaneously found spiritual art in an unexpected place (please see my previous post:
I feel rather lucky to have come across two inspiring works of art that champion the integral value of peace in 2 major cities in the UK within a couple of months, let’s hope they inspire others that also happen across the statues.
