An Obsolete Leadership Model and the New Paradigm in Conscious Leadership
Most people, when they think of ´Leaders´, they imagine dark-suited-men sitting in board rooms, big CEOs leading corporations, presidents of countries and religious institutions… This mostly masculine and grey looking figure has shifted and the leaders of today are normal people like you and me.
Conscious Leaders are found everywhere. Conscious Leaders are found leading families, communities, projects, teams, businesses, as well as all of the above and in addition, they run their own lives in a conscious and sustainable way.
You are already a Leader
My vision ´Everyone to become a Conscious Leader´ includes everyone. Not a single soul stays out of the vision. For me every individual takes part in the great picture of the whole game of creation and each single one is responsible for where we are and where we are going as the humanity collective, as the Humanity´s Team.
You may not see it. You may not see yourself as a leader. It´s a big word, right? And you may not see yourself as someone who can be a leader. However, know that leading qualities are innate but also you can learn them, being a leader is a choice.
I totally understand those who don´t see it. How can ´every person be a leader´? And I can tell you ´yes´, and I guarantee you that you are already ´leading´. You are leading your live, whether you do it consciously or unconsciously, you are leading your everyday life. You take your own decisions, you do what you do and go where you go, on your own. Even, if you are someone completely not doing anything you want, you are ultimately leading the way you feel, as in each moment, you choose how you want to feel about anything, and this is the only one thing no one can take away from you.
Conscious Leadership Starts at Home
Let me entertain you with my own example of day to day leading. I am an introvert by nature. The only thought of being a leader of anything used turned my hands into a shaky sweat. However, my vision is so strong that it pulled out every ounce of fear out of me and pushed me to do things I never thought possible, like speaking in public or being very visible in social media (a few years ago I didn´t even have a picture of myself in Facebook). Now, I see myself as the leader I once feared so step out of me.
Becoming a Conscious Leader is an internal process and one that will continue till the day I die and probably beyond death. But at some point I felt ready and I started stepping up into things that years before would have been the kind of things that other people do.
Yet Conscious Leadership really started at home. I deeply honour Mother Theresa who says that ´if you want to change the world, go home and love your family´. And Ram Dass who said ´if you think you are enlightened, go spend a week with your family´. This is exactly what I did. Not with the aim to achieve enlightenment (at this point I don´t even know what enlightenment means, but that´s another story for another post). I returned home, after many years of working and living abroad, travelling all over the place and being totally independent, to be with mum, to spend quality time with her before it was too late and ultimately be with her when she needed caring, as she grew older.
How Caring for my Mother Transformed me into a Better Conscious Leader
The past two years, mum has been becoming fully dependent and I have been growing through the process of becoming her carer. Through this process, I have finally become the Conscious Leader I was working towards being… always in progress, but in a position now that where I can say with confidence and without feeling a fraud, that I am LEADING my life in a very CONSCIOUS way. Yet, I am not the leader of any corporation and I am certainly not planning to be president of the Spanish government, I am a leader, a Conscious Leader. Let me explain…
Caring for mum requires high levels of Leadership… of Conscious Leadership… so much so, that I don´t see now Leadership without the word Conscious. How can you not be conscious of your leadership? A ´true´ leader knows exactly what they are doing and that´s why being conscious for me includes always the values of Love and Compassion.
Caring for mum pushed me to ask for help, prioritise, say no, say yes, follow through, show up, be resilient, be disciplined, understand the power of a Championship Team, truly live my Vision, apply new high levels of self-care, lead multiple projects in my life without going into overwhelm… but above all, I learnt to lead the way I would have liked to be led: from Love and Compassion and with the 9 Qualities of Conscious Leaders that I speak off in my ebook: Cultivating Conscious Leadership.
I now go to bed most days feeling accomplished and fulfilled, because I´m in service to whoever presents in front of me, with care, respect, presence and love.
Cultivate Conscious Leadership too and find out what true happiness and fulfilment feels like.
