ConsenSys Update: Tachyon Accelerator, Kaleido, Ethereal, and Distributed 2018
A major new venture endeavor in San Francisco, big moves by Civil, and new highlights from Ethereal NY, ABC, and the recent Dublin launch.
The ConsenSys Mesh is made up of over 50 projects, groups, initiatives, circles, and spokes — all of which are building the platforms, dApps, and services of the decentralized future.
Because there’s so much going on at Consensys around the world, every two weeks we highlight projects from around the mesh with important and exciting updates by covering everything from tech development to community outreach and hiring.
In this edition, we’ve got updates from a new ConsenSys Accelerator program, Kaleido, Meridio, growth in Dublin, and more.
Now, for updates from the week of June 25…
ConsenSys Ventures has announced the launch of the Tachyon Accelerator, a San Francisco-based blockchain accelerator. The Tachyon program will fund up to 15 blockchain-based projects beginning in September, alongside high-profile mentor partnerships and a series of events and demo days.
Applications for Tachyon are open now until July 30 for projects that fit along three tracks — social impact, general ethereum, and/or open-source projects.
As you likely know, Kaleido, the first enterprise blockchain platform for Ethereum, publicly launched with AWS May 15th at Consensus in NYC. It is the first blockchain SaaS on the AWS Marketplace and has a five-star rating. Globally available, Kaleido has been busy since the launch. One of their first projects, in partnership with UnionBank of Philippines, facilitated financial inclusion amongst the under-and-unbanked on the network of islands. Trustology, a crypto-asset custodianship platform, is one of a few fast emerging custody services offering to take the risks of crypto-security away from wallet holders and investors more accustomed to traditional investment models. Bloomberg recently published an article highlighting the strain of high-worth individuals and companies securing their own assets, and the acute need for companies like Trustology. Expect lots more in this space soon.
Balanc3, an accounting platform for crypto-assets, hosted the second annual Accounting Blockchain Coalition (ABC) Conference recently. The videos from the are now live, featuring panels and discussions from financial, technology, and regulatory experts from across the world including ConsenSys’ Joe Lubin, Yorke Rhodes from Microsoft, and Alex Batlin of Trustology. Alethio keeps churning out analyses of the Ethereum blockchain with previously-unavailable rich data and visualizations. A deep dive into a comparative study of decentralized exchanges and continuing snapshots of the EOS ERC-20 token are among some of Alethio’s most recent publications.

Civil is a decentralized marketplace for sustainable news, enabling journalists to focus on journalism. A number of prominent journalists from The Denver Post have traded the legacy media industry for Civil’s decentralized model, and are launching a publication named The Colorado Sun on the Civil platform. The Sun will be one of Civil’s “First Fleet” of up to 30 newsrooms, alongside publications like Cannabis Wire, focused on marijuana, and Documented, which covers immigration in New York City.
“We are all about doing great local journalism, and we think this is the best model for doing that, Larry Ryckman, a former senior editor of The Denver Post who is now editor of the Colorado Sun, told CNBC. “It is new and unproven, but we are willing to take a chance.”
ConsenSys Launches Dublin Innovation Studio
In case you missed it, ConsenSys just launched its Dublin Innovation Studio on June 11th. Quickly growing into a hub of 60–70 developers, engineers, and innovators, the office is poised to become the country’s hub for Ethereum and blockchain development. Distributed 2018: July 19–20 in San Francisco
