2018 will be remembered as the year that blockchain tech ascended the zeitgeist of SXSW and its intersection of tech, music, film, business, and culture. In 2019, the decentralization movement comes into its own at SXSW bigger than ever with the debut of the Blockchain and Cryptocurrency track at South by Southwest Interactive this March 8–17.

“Built into SXSW programming for 2019, is the belief that blockchain technology will fundamentally change the current digital infrastructure of the internet through data decentralization, data transparency, and digital currency.” — Ari Roth, SXSW

The robust blockchain programming at SXSW 2019 features four days of blockchain-centric discourse that brings together technologists, thinkers, and entrepreneurs from blockchain ecosystem. With leaders from ConsenSys, IBM, MIT, Gemini all speaking, and thousands of tuned in startups and developers in attendance, SXSW 2019 is shaping up to be a momentous waypoint as the blockchain industry races towards Web3.

This year, ConsenSys Founder Joe Lubin will be delivering a keynote address at SXSW Interactive, appearing alongside speakers as diverse in expertise as New Left scion Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, tech mogul Tim Ferriss, evergreen music provocateur David Byrne, and architectural iconoclast Bjarke Ingels.

At the heart of all the tech, culture, and blockchain action at SXSW will be the Blockchain House by ConsenSys from March 10–14th.

In ideal proximity to everything happening in Austin during SXSW, Blockchain House will feature four days of programming at its Ethereal Lounge centered around addressing The Future Of… topics ranging from music to health, work, digital identity, intensive Intro to Blockchain crash courses, a pop-up event with Black Girls Code, and intimate talks with leaders in the tech ecosystem and blockchain space.

With their take on the Future of Social Impact, the Bounties Network will be premiering their documentary The Bounty for Basura at the Blockchain House on March 11 at 5:00pm. The documentary follows the team on their social impact initiative in Manila, Bounties for the Oceans. The Bounty for Basura will offer a close-up look at a real-world application of the Ethereum blockchain.

In addition to extending a front row seat to the latest developments in decentralized tech, Blockchain House will also offer a chance to engage with the BUIDLers of Ethereum and ConsenSys, hang out at a number of social events, and even take a moment to relax in the Ethereal Zen Zone.

And the best part is: You’re invited.

You can check out the full schedule for Blockchain House at SXSW, and more announcements will be made in the run-up to SXSW.

The elevation of Blockchain and Cryptocurrency to a main track of SXSW Interactive is a sign of the ecosystem’s growth and maturation. And it’s clear that SXSW organizers are on board:

“We at SXSW believe that Blockchain technology is going to fundamentally impact the current digital infrastructure of the internet through data decentralization, data transparency, and digital currency,” says Todd Hansen, Head of SXSW Conference Programming.

“We are at the very beginning of discovering how this innovation will be adopted across industries and impact our day to day lives. The promise of Blockchain is very compelling and SXSW will be a place where you can see its future unfold.”
