Between the years 1980 and 2000, obesity percentages have doubled. There no arguing that America is on the track towards a major obesity epidemic. Conspiracy theorist, however, believe that the government is making us fat on purpose. The more obese a population is, the more dependent they are, and the more vulnerable they are.

Americans are surrounded by food — and unhealthy food at that. Those living in the United States are constantly shown marketing and advertising, wither it be in the form of signs we pass while on our afternoon commute, the ad’s we see on television between shows, or the small sponsors we at sporting games. Those who try to stay healthy, ultimately fail. Those who try to resist the temptation to swing through a drive through for a quick $3 smoothie, ultimately fail. Is it our fault though?

Humans — by nature — are designed to notice food over everyday objects. If you notice a great temptation for hours and hours on end, its reasonable to give in. The Food and Drug Administration send out warnings, but don’t ever end up actually acting on their warnings. We are getting more and more obese by the year, and falling in and out of obesity caused illnesses.

As we get increasingly big, the economy gets increasingly big as well.

The United States may want to keep us on this track for the money gain, which isn’t entirely un-plausible.
