Constellation Network’s Era 1 (nicknamed “Hercules”) releases include:

  • Software Developer Kit (SDK) with Currency Framework
  • The HGTP Economy: Implementing Generative Tokenomics in the Hypergraph for Validator Nodes and Metagraphs at Scale (litepaper)
  • Rosetta implementation

Introducing New Network Terminology

Before we delve into each of the Era 1 items above, we’d like to introduce the new naming convention Constellation Network has instituted for its network components:

  • Hypergraph: the Global L0 where global snapshots (bundled transactions) are validated across global consensus
  • HGTP or Hypergraph Transfer Protocol: the snapshot transmission mechanism for the Hypergraph Network and all of its components
  • Metagraphs: formerly known as State Channels, Metagraphs are the subnetworks that projects build on top of the Hypergraph
  • Metagraph Tokens: formerly known as L0 tokens, these are the tokens that will run on HGTP within the Constellation ecosystem

Euclid Software Developer Kit with Currency Framework

Constellation Network has created a “Quick Start” framework with sets of tooling to simplify and speed up development for project teams. The Constellation SDK, nicknamed “Euclid,” has been designed as a set of extensible components, giving developers the ability to seamlessly integrate common standards into their projects while focusing on their own business logic and use cases.

According to VP of Engineering, Alex Brandes, “[Metagraph] development has been broadly possible since the release of documentation last summer, but the tools haven’t been easy to access within our core codebases. The SDK aims to simplify development by abstracting away much of the internals of the system and exposing specific functionality that allows teams to write their own business logic while inheriting common standards.

The Euclid SDK features the Currency Framework, the first in a series of micro-frameworks designed to help developers get started quickly with inherited common standards. The Currency Framework allows project teams to mint their own token using Constellation Network’s Metagraph Token Standard “out of the box.” The quick-start framework allows developers to easily spin up development clusters with developer dashboards and telemetry tooling.

Alex continues, “Due to the micro-service architecture of the Hypergraph, local development has been especially challenging in the past. Creating a minimal development environment required multiple clusters of nodes to be launched and configured to interact properly. A major goal with this initial release of the SDK was to simplify that process so that anyone can launch their own local development environment with minimal effort.

Additional frameworks will be added throughout the year as more functionality comes online around data validation and Metagraph interoperability.

HGTP Architecture Overview

SDK Highlights:

  • Currency Framework — An extensible micro development framework for minting tokens based on the Metagraph Token standard.
  • The Euclid Development Environment — an upgradable base for launching minimal development environments and developing metagraph projects locally.
  • Hydra CLI tool — a powerful command line utility to manage network clusters within the Euclid Development Environment.
  • The Euclid Developer Dashboard — a frontend codebase for visual interaction with local development clusters.
  • Telemetry Dashboard — a custom telemetry setup for monitoring local or deployed metagraph networks.

Launching a Metagraph Token

The Euclid SDK gives Web3 developers a fast and configurable approach to launching a token on the network.

Metagraph Token Rollout Process:

  • March 30th: Beta signups available for testnet launch of metagraph tokens
  • Mid April: Review submissions and support launch of token projects on testnet
  • April/May: Security review of metagraph tokens and DAG Explorer, Stargazer support rolls out
  • May: Launch of tokens on mainnet + exchange integrations (dependent on security review)

Note: Alex Brandes, Constellation’s VP of Engineering, will be demoing the SDK and presenting our progress on the protocol roadmap during a Hypergraph Hour next Thursday, April 6th, at 12:00pm PT

The HGTP Economy: Implementing Generative Tokenomics in the Hypergraph for Validator Nodes and Metagraphs at Scale

This litepaper articulates the general framework and model around DAG token utility, implementing Metagraphs, and how to navigate the HGTP economy for all stakeholders.

The litepaper discusses the metrics that are being measured on-chain with the aim of releasing tokenomics to governance in a future Era. During this time, peer-to-peer transactions and validating data will remain free as we see adoption of the protocol.

Parameters like units, computational cost, multipliers, and tips/base fees can be used to predict costs of deploying Metagraphs and sending snapshots. Metagraphs can create their own network with tokenomics to drive product and service adoption while connecting network utility to fiat revenue and data-driven insights.

The first Era focuses on opening up the network to Metagraphs. We will continue to measure the utility of the network and determine the impact on tokenomics in future Eras in 2023.

Rosetta Implementation

Rosetta is an open standard to simplify blockchain integrations with exchanges and other third-party services. Cryptocurrencies running on their own mainnets must integrate Rosetta in order to list with tier one exchanges such as Coinbase and Binance.

As of the Era 1 rollout, the majority of required Rosetta endpoints have been implemented with only a small subset remaining requiring complete transaction history without the block explorer API overlay we’ve been using. The team has a solution ready to implement for this subset, which will commence upon the release of the SDK.

According to Alex, “The current level of Rosetta support is sufficient to continue integration discussions with exchanges, which is why we’ve been tracking it as a major milestone.

Further progress on the Rosetta integration and other items in future Eras will be tracked on our protocol roadmap.
