The British architects have released plans for a 39-storey office and retail complex at Pitt Street station, part of the expansion of Sydney’s metro system

When the extension of the metro was announced in 2017, Foster + Partners won the contract to design several of the new stations. The tower at Pitt Street will rise above the north side of the station.

Foster + Partners will work with Sydney firm Cox Architecture on bringing the tower’s design to life. The building will have a centralised lift, providing views over Sydney Harbour, and its office space will feature social spaces. Its sandstone and bronze colour scheme has been chosen to complement the other buildings in the Pitt Street district.

Ross Palmer, Foster + Partners’ senior partner, said: “The Pitt Street north development will reinforce and frame one of the key gateways to the city with a design that celebrates the rich architectural heritage of the precinct and heralds the future of Sydney’s next-generation midtown.”
