We’ve all been there. After summer break ends and the kids go back to school you’re a little off your game. They’re gone all day but the hours from 8:00 to 3:00 seem to fly by at warp speed and you don’t feel like you’re getting anything done. How can you get back into the groove when you’ve lost the rhythm that you had so perfect just a few months ago.

  1. Create the time. The dishes can wait, the laundry will be there later. To run a business you’ve got to do income producing activities. To do those activities you’ve got to cut out time to get the appointments. Create time within your day to make the calls and meet the clients. If you don’t, the list of todo’s will never end and you’ll find yourself still incomplete at the end of the day. If you decide that from 10:00–12:00 you’re going to work on your business…do that. When 12:00 comes you know that you did what you were supposed to and you can move on to everything else guilt free.
  2. Make a plan. Setting aside the time to work is the first step, but what do you do when you go to work? How many appointments do you need to hold to reach your goals? How many contacts do you have to make to get a booking, how many bookings do you have to make to hold one? Once you know your numbers (if you don’t know your numbers guess high) you’ll know what you need to do to work. It’s called planning your work and working your plan.
  3. Let others know about your plan. So, you’re going to get back into the swing of holding appointments and making calls on a regular basis. You might want to let your significant other know that. You might want to tell your best girl friend…and hey, you might want to tell your best customers. Perhaps there is something special you do for repeat hostesses. Getting back in the groove is THE perfect reason to contact someone. Get the word out.

Getting back to work when you work for yourself isn’t as simple as it is when you clock in at an office, or at the local coffee shop, but the rewards are so much greater. Now stop reading blog posts and make some calls!
