Let’s Learn Devtron
IT leaders are now under more pressure to deliver steady outcomes, especially since the Covid-19 pandemic has transformed the way we work. As the future of work continuously evolves, there is an accelerated emergence of open-source software to make technological advancements accessible to all.
As businesses embrace digital transformations, open-source codes offer accessible conduits to scaling software, saving companies time by having software readily available.
Are you wondering how you can learn how to make your software delivery workflow cost-free? If there’s an open-source tool that is the perfect combination of Cost, Security, and Stability?
Let us introduce you to Devtron! An open-source platform for simplified software delivery workflow for Kubernetes.
“Technology is nothing! What’s important is that you have faith in people, that they’re basically good and smart — and if you give them tools, they’ll do wonderful things with them,” — Steve Jobs.
On July 8, 2021, in a Youtube stream with Saiyam Pathak, Director of Technical Evangelism at Civo/CNCF Ambassador, Let’s Learn Devtron, Prashant Ghildiyal, co-founder, Devtron, geared up the Kubernetes community by introducing his baby, Devtron.
Prashant’s love for programming gave birth to Devtron, “I have been in this industry for 15 to 20 years. There are 11–12 different languages which I code because I just love it, and I can’t get over it,” he said, adding that programming is the essence of Devtron.
“Why Devtron?” — Reasons to deploy!
While numerous Open-Source tools are available for Kubernetes, the challenge is around configuring. Since the software is verticalised, they tend to serve only the industry they were intended to.
Prashant says, “When looking at Kubernetes, we feel overjoyed because we are not dealing with the operating systems directly, but a different set of APIs by a microservice. Essentially, this means that we can create a uniform interface for everyone to interact.”
To find the right solutions, the dedicated team at Devtron works towards creating and providing an implementation agnostic and uniform interface with different tools across the lifecycle of the applications. In addition to this, Devtron has been created to be a modular product focused on user experience to enable a self-serve model.
Still here? Know how to use Devtron to its full potential!
Devtron’s architecture can be divided into key three buckets:
- Public Interface — comprising UI and API interface.
- Services — including image scanner, notifier, deployment metrics, git server, kubewatch, test reporter, and access control.
- Components to interact with OSS + Commercial Solution include an interface for CI, observability, policy, GitOps, and more!
Devtron is a holistically built tool showcasing some of the most sophisticated features in its catalog, such as:
- Helm Chart Management
- Blue-Green/Canary Deployment
- Multi-Cluster Support
- Integrated Observability
- Uniform Access Management
- Centralized Caching
- Hierarchical Security Policies
The How of Devtron — How to go about the tool?
Devtron can be smoothly installed with Helm 3, Helm 2, and Kubectl. You add the Devtron repository and run the install command while internally, the Helm chart will install an operator in your infrastructure. The operator understands and takes control to ensure that the logical steps operate to produce the intended result. You can also access a comprehensive installation and demo here —https://youtu.be/FB5BI3Ef7uw?t=2065.
In all its grandeur, Devtron as a tool complements the Kubernetes Community. The tool is committed to meet your Kubernetes needs smoothly and free of cost. As members of the ever-evolving Kubernetes Community, Devtron invites people like you who wish to learn and contribute to aid the vision of our product and the community as a whole. Kudos and all the very best!
