What is Moonwell?
Moonwell is an open and decentralized lending and borrowing protocol built on Base. it’s also live on Moonbeam, and Moonriver, but since liquidity is lower there Contango integrated it only on Base.
Moonwell has on-chain governance and proposals are required for all changes and updates to the Moonwell protocol. Contango recently wrote an introduction to its cPerps built on Moonwell there.
Moonwell contributors include Gauntlet and Warden Finance, leading providers of financial modeling tools and economic simulations. They play a crucial role in assessing and evaluating potential economic risks, as well as conducting simulations to optimize risk management and capital efficiency. Gauntlet’s risk management dashboard and Warden Finance’s risk analytics platform provide the Moonwell community with valuable insights for informed decision-making and effective risk management.
Moonwell tokenomics
Since the integration with Moonwell is on Base only and traders earn rewards from there, we’ll focus on WELL, which is the token that governs the Base (and Moonbeam) deployment. Moonwell has another token for Moonriver.
The utility of WELL is two-fold:
- WELL can be staked within the Safety Module, contributing towards protecting Moonwell against “Shortfall Events”, such as smart contract exploits, liquidation failures, or oracle malfunctions. In exchange they’re rewarded with more WELL tokens.
- WELL can also be used to vote on governance proposals.
Recently Moonwell has added USDC as rewards too.
