Each one of us has had a unique journey to adapt and respond to this global crisis. With the loss of your regular routine, life may seem out of control. Despite your best effort, you may be feeling out of energy, bored or simply unproductive.

As lockdowns across the globe continue, these 3 ideas will help you change your perspective and thrive amidst crisis.

Reset Yourself Daily

In times of crisis, persistence is more important than speed.

It’s not about being so strong that you will never be overwhelmed, it’s having a way to get out of it. How you reset yourself is the only skill that matters.

The best resetting routines will help you to establish yourself deeply in the present moment. They deliver excitement and time to build hope. They give you space to step away and decide upon things small and big. They help you forgive yourself for all that went wrong today. They help you get back in control, reset your mood and deliver self-confidence.

Create a reset block in your day. It can be before you begin your day or after you finish work or both. Identify activities that can help you rejuvenate. For e.g.

  • 25 minutes exercise block that gives you a rush
  • Cooking something new and delicious
  • Yoga session that helps you get into a flow
  • Meditation for peace
  • Prayer for affirmations
  • Watching sunrise or sunset
  • Try something new that you would never think of doing otherwise

Create your own routine. Keep it exciting. Reset yourself daily so that you don’t run out of fuel before the crisis ends. Use it to have the strength and patience in this situation and thrive.

Accept The Reality

Being stuck at home, you may be feeling utterly bored and out of ideas to entertain yourself.

You may be resenting the effort you have to put into the household chores. You may be feeling out of energy trying to manage work and childcare. You may be feeling lonely. You may be desperate to take a break and just go somewhere.

What is happening outside is not under your control, but your perception of the situation and your reaction to it is. From taking out the garbage every morning to cooking meals, every simple action can be done without resentment and frustration. You can adjust your goals and give yourself space to be unproductive for a few weeks. If you never thought of doing something previously, you can give it a try and break out of boredom. You can use the confinement of space to get in touch with yourself.

Solutions will come only after you accept things the way they are and make a choice to act. Resentment will create frustration and desire for things to go back to normal. Acceptance will make you ready to find ways to deal with the situation and you may discover something unique in the process.

Establish Yourself In The Impermanence Of Things

Fear of falling sick or not being able to recover from it is real. Anxiety about the wellbeing of your loved ones so far away is real. Concern about the health of the economy, its impact on your finances is real. The disappointment of watching your personal or professional goals go for a toss is real.

However, death is also real. In a crisis like this, you can experience the fallacy of your own permanence.

In Meditation, one observes reality and draws personal wisdom through it.

Observe the world around you, observe the fragility of everything. Make note of everything that has changed in your life over the past few years, months and days. Use this knowledge and establish a sense of detachment. This situation and everything that will come through it will also pass.

Establishing death consciousness and a sense of impermanence could be your biggest takeaway from the crisis.

Conclusion

Life moves in ways you can’t predict.

You can only build resilience. Create a lever to reset yourself. Accept the smallest aspect of this new context and develop the wisdom that will help even after the crisis.

You can thrive and grow out of this. Stay calm and centered!
