America Mourns
When humanity, humility, peace and character mattered
Today we will lay to rest one of the most influential Presidents of the United States, Jimmy Carter. This man is known as a humanitarian, peacekeeper, forward-thinker and a man of faith. He stood for women’s rights, human rights, conservation and ending dependence on fossil fuels when it wasn’t cool to do so. A man who lived in a small red brick home which reflected his beliefs in modesty, humility and service to others.
The funeral at Washington National Cathedral was like many dignitaries formal funerals, filled with rituals and music. It showed respect for Carter, who did more with his life after his Presidency than most of us can imagine. He led by example, showing America what can be achieved by faith, action, intelligence and understanding of those with opposing beliefs.
Speakers at the funeral service talked of Carter’s drive to have a life of purpose, meaning and dignity. He brought these passions to public office, without losing himself in the process. He desired to make a difference in this world, not in service to himself or branding his self-image.
