Forgiveness

a poem

I’ve heard it said my soul shines bright

But no one can see this internal fight

I’ve hidden the parts that feel like night

So much I’ve lost them from my sight.

Push and pull, push and pull,

A piece was lost that made me whole

Whether it’s possible, I don’t know

I need to forgive to save my soul.

“Hold on,” my heart whispers, “this isn’t quite true

You’re not at fault for what you’ve been through

No more looking back, I know what we’ll do

Starting right now, we will forgive you!”

And that, dear reader, is what’s meant to be

To fully be healed, I will forgive me

Nothing that happened could have been foreseen

As I learn to accept this, I will become free.
