Is it me or is the world degenerating to anti-woman?
I Lost My Funny
A glimpse into the mirthless world of today’s woman
Maybe it’s because of the root canal treatment I skipped last year. The dentist had warned that my smile may never be the same again.
She should have been specific that my laughter would drown thereafter.
Oh, I recently went back to watching the news.
Maybe that’s it.
Seeing sheets over hundreds of bodies would do that, especially as the world is now united in the phenomenon of mass body bags coverage.
Words like crisis and emergency now overrun the journalistic jukebox, causing heavy sighs and prolonged hissing.
Headlines like — woman burned to death, woman raped over a period of 10 years, woman strangled and pureed, stabbed multiple times are in vogue.
Everyday, all I see is Haitian gangs burning people on the streets, Sudanese children queuing for food rations after being displaced from the four walls they’d called home all their lives; reminders that Leah Sharibu and other Nigerian girls kidnapped from their schools are being raped by their captors daily, ten years after.
