Most of the time, the voices in my head drown out what’s going on around me. I become completely occupied by the mini drama unfolding in my head and I’m blinded to the action unfolding in the real world.

This day, it just so happened that I was aware of my surroundings. I could hear the radio playing some alternative rock songs, and some pop songs, as two young lovers stood embracing each other, the boys phone echoing out the soundtrack to their young love.

I could hear the woman on the phone to her friend, lamenting about the cut she was going to have to take in hours, which meant she wasn’t going to be able to afford their weekly lunches anymore. I gathered that her friend on the other line decided to cover the meal for the young lady, because her mood visibly lightened after listening for a little bit, and it couldn’t help but to lighten my mood as well.
