We Can All Use a Boost
Remembering what this actually means
My dear friend Rebecca A. Barrett nonchalantly sent me a text the other day, after I mentioned to her that I’d like to try to boost a lovely poetic meditation she’s been working on for a couple of weeks.
“I could use a boost.”
I came back to her and said —
“ We all can. Each and every day. We take them where and when we can get them.”
I’m in discussion groups — I call them this deliberately, to make the distinction between a chat group and a community, which I view as a much deeper personal commitment, and which is frequently life-long in nature. In these discussion groups, there is a lot of talk about the Medium Boost pilot program, and all the problems and changes that people would like to see implemented. Most recently though, people are unhappy with earning less money then they did in the beginning of the program.
I recognize that we all need to figure out how we pay the bills. When one of my early mentors, Lucia — I call her my surrogate mother — would write me letters and say, “Yes, Virginia, you will always wonder where the money will come from to pay the next…
