Harry Potter and the Kindle in Motion animated e-book

Have you seen the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone? It’s very purdy. The illustrations by Jim Kay made it a marvellous keepsake for fans of the wizarding world. Now it’s got a brand new digital edition that animates Kay’s work.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone: Illustrated is a ‘Kindle in Motion’ e-book, which means it comes with animations that can be viewed on some of Amazon’s Fire tablets, as well as the Kindle app on iOS and Android devices.

In this Kindle in Motion edition, Jim Kay’s illustrations are available for the first time in a beautifully designed digital reading experience, with the artist’s interpretations of much-loved locations, characters and magical creatures newly animated to come alive on your device,” explains its listing on Amazon.

“See the smoke from the Hogwarts Express billow around Platform 9 ¾, experience the hustle and bustle of Diagon Alley, and witness the enchanting spectacle of the Sorting Ceremony. All this and other surprises and delights await in this specially-created digital book.”

Admittedly, if you’ve already bought the print edition for your children (or, indeed, yourself) then springing for the digital version just to get some animations may not appeal.

At half the price of the print version – Amazon is selling the Kindle in Motion version for £6.99 – the e-book may be good value if you’re new to Kay’s work on the series.

There’s a bit more info on the new edition in the video above, as well as in a blog post on the Pottermore website.
