More than 12.5 million Raspberry Pi computers have been sold since its launch in 2012, and it’s become a popular choice for children learning to code and hack in school and at home alike. It can be a bit intimidating at first though: what do you actually do with this thing?

A new book has just come out to help with that. It’s called Creative Projects with Raspberry Pi, and it’s a collection of 35 ideas (or as the book puts it, ‘Pideas’ which to be honest is making me think of chicken and beef right now) for new Pi owners, whatever their age.

“With tips from master Pi engineers you can create anything you can think of, from your own video games and robots to expressing yourself artistically, and even performing scientific experiments,” explains the blurb from publisher Octopus.

“25 of these projects are sourced from the greatest makers in the world, and are designed to showcase the ultimate possibilities with Pi. These are accompanied by 10 ‘inspired-by’ projects that even a novice could make, including full step-by-step building instructions.”

Pi-fearing parents, don’t worry: there are also web links to use during the projects if you get stuck. At £12.99, it could be just the thing for some summer-holiday computing inspiration.
