Hey, hey! Cheers to the freakin’ weekend. In today’s edition of Content Consumed…

📣 Give me more late-night Chelsea Handler
🎧 Expectations for Niall Horan’s new music
🐍 Caroline Calloway’s scams continue

I’m back in on Chelsea Handler

I watched Chelsea Handler’s E! show, Chelsea Lately, semi-religiously in high school. Her monologues were consistently amusing, her guest stars vivacious and snarly with their hot takes on pop culture and her events, and her show formatting endlessly entertaining. It was edgy for its era and for today, so I can’t say whether it’s stood the test of time, but you had to love it for what it was.

Chelsea got a little annoying when the show ended, as she was clearly creatively unfulfilled and throwing anything that could stick at the wall—but it’s comeback season. She’s matured—but not too much, of course.

Chelsea deserves Trevor Noah’s empty seat. She killed it as a guest host on The Daily Show and late night needs a female presence. It’s that simple. It’s where she belongs: hosting a late-night talk show.

Not convinced? Read this Rolling Stone profile piece.

Expectations for Niall Horan’s new music

Niall’s career hasn’t exactly matched up to fellow ex-1D bandmate Harry’s career. But listen: there’s potential.

His past two albums, Flicker (2017) and Heartbreak Weather (2020), didn’t exactly top the charts. But a few singles, like “This Town” and “Slow Hands” got some international attention! Now, it’s time for The Show (that’s the name of his new album, dropping in early June).

The first single, “Heaven”, isn’t anything to write home about. It’s in very much the same style as Styles (get it?): a dreamy, wistful indie-pop singalong. Perhaps a little too tame, rhythmically and lyrically.

But there are rumors. Rumors that this new album will shoot Niall Horan back into peoples’ lives. One of those rumors has a little something to do with Harry Styles, naturally.

Circus-themed music videos, color schemes, a certain cloud print? All keys to a puzzle, as determined by investigative journalists, a.k.a. TikTok fangirls. Harry Styles simply MUST be featured on this album, they say. Notably, it’d be the first time that two members of One Direction linked up musically in their solo careers.

Needless to say, I’m interested.

Caroline Calloway will not go away

You thought you could be done with one of the Internet’s most notorious micro-scammers? Never!

Caroline Calloway: wannabe author (if you preordered her book, sorry, but that’s your fault), snake oil saleswoman (literally), podcast host abuser (yep), and liar (of course, who could forget this The Cut piece?).

She lives now, somewhat isolated, in Florida. She’s supposedly reading books, managing her mental health, and working on her writing. But she still has no boundaries.

In this Vice video, Calloway posts on a particularly vicious Reddit page that tracks her every move, asking if the group’s members would like to speak to her. It doesn’t go well. Later, a moderator for a “Caroline Calloway enthusiasts” page expresses regret for unkind things she’d said in the past, and advises Calloway to let the whole thing go and move on. (Daily Beast)

She’s still being sued by her landlord for $40,000 worth of unpaid rent in NYC. Naturally, she moved to Florida instead, like a true scammer. She’s still delusional, writing things like:

“I hope there will come a day when I don’t have to have the word scam in my Instagram bio in order to stay one step ahead of my trolls. Scamming is my brand right now, but it’s a narrative I would like to be excluded from. Maybe one day.”

So yeah, keep expecting scams from Caroline. Keep expecting Vice mini-docs. Because the most private public person in the world isn’t done with clawing her way through the Internet.

And that’s all for today! Thank you for reading! Be sure to subscribe to get Content Consumed (almost) every weekday.

Love,
Casey
