Hey, everyone! What a Tuesday. Fresh off the Love Island premiere and feelin’ quite cheeky. See my full recap here.

In today’s Content Consumed

  • The world of golf is in shambles (SI). Listen, I’m outside my comfort zone on this one, so apologies in advance. From my understanding, a Saudi organization called LIV is luring away the best of the best — Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, etc. — from the PGA to play for them in a different format for bigger paydays. These Saudi investors are slowly but surely getting top players, agents, broadcasters, sponsors, and other stakeholders to leave the comfortable world of U.S. golf for huge sums of money. Human rights issues be damned, I guess!
  • Personal finance is emotional, okay?! (Vox). Most financial literacy conversations don’t include the basic fact that emotion drives much of our decision-making. The usual tips and tricks don’t account for our human side, the kind of behavior that accounts for decisions like vacations, mental wellness, studying abroad, retail therapy, dinner with friends, housing budget vs. wedding budget, and more. The dreaded broken-budget shame spiral is so real. So how can we incorporate basic human emotion into personal finance?
  • Brad Pitt says Angie is being mean about their winery (Gawker). And so it begins: the reverse #MeToo, post-Johnny v. Amber era. Brad Pitt’s latest legal filing, one of many in their 6-year (so far) divorce proceedings, argues Angelina Jolie sold her stake in their winery to a Russian oligarch just to be rude. And naturally, Brad’s lawyers are requesting a trial by jury. I don’t love this era of televised celeb trials! I don’t want it!
  • How many friends should we really have? (Vox). Wedding update: I will not be having bridesmaids. Part of that is because we’re having a very small, mostly-family wedding in southern Mexico. Part of that is because I don’t have a lengthy roster of BFFs who I want standing next to me on one of the most important days of my life. And I’ve already felt a bit of judgment from others for it. But how many friends do we really need anyway? I know my perspective, and many others’, has changed since the pandemic started.
  • Season 3 is Ted Lasso’s last (Variety). I wasn’t a huge fan of Season 2. Too much cheese, not enough soccer. But I suppose that’s the point! Really, I thought Season 1 could’ve ended as a single-season mini-series. But I have high hopes for Season 3. Here’s hoping it wraps up beautifully and we get to see Jason Sudeikis in more material outside of Ted Lasso afterward, and that he won’t be boxed in by this role. I think we all know he won’t though; his past with SNL and other shows/movies prove he can do almost anything.
