We’re happy to announce several significant developments to make Ephox’s TinyMCE Cloud more accessible than ever for our users.

The key points from our announcement:

  • TinyMCE Cloud plugins now work with a self-hosted editor
  • TinyMCE Cloud editor and plugins have version control
  • TinyMCE Cloud products are available to purchase online
  • New transparent pricing plan with more options
  • Advanced Code Editor is now available as a standalone plugin

And here’s a more detailed breakdown of what we’ve been up to:

In 2016, we had two key goals for TinyMCE. First, make it easier to integrate TinyMCE into your application. Second, it was to ensure any TinyMCE deployment can access to our premium plugins.

Our first release of TinyMCE Cloud, required the editor and any desired plugins to be delivered as a bundle, and automatic upgrades were an obligation. TinyMCE Cloud allowed for a quicker installation and easier ongoing maintenance, but we know that there are users who want to keep their editor self-hosted and that version control is a must-have for many developers.

Starting today, you can choose to maintain your self-hosted editor and have your plugins delivered via the cloud. This reduces overall plugin configuration time compared to an all self-hosted solution, as we take care of the server configuration for you. We have also added the ability to specify specific version numbers.

We have also expanded online purchasing options to include all TinyMCE Cloud products. Along with that expansion of our e-commerce catalog is a new pricing plan with a greater array of options.

Some of our most-viewed documentation pages are for our Advanced Code Editor, but to date, this plugin has only been available as part of our Pro bundle. Now you can now purchase the Advanced Code Editor as a standalone plugin in either the Cloud or SDK delivery format.

These changes follow an active year of Ephox finding ways to make the TinyMCE tent even bigger. In October, we launched a WordPress version of our popular PowerPaste plugin. And last November, we launched a redesigned and re-platformed TinyMCE website, including a new version of our documentation that was built on GitHub. We put our docs on GitHub to make it far easier for our community of developers to help create the TinyMCE that they wanted to see. Since then, we’ve seen 1,161 commits from 34 contributors.

We’ve got even more cool stuff lined up for 2017. Keep checking back to hear what’s in store.
