I’ve been spending some time listening to IndieHackers podcast, and for the people that don’t know what this podcast is about, IHPodcasts are raw conversations with founders behind online profitable businesses, in other words, indie makers who converted their side projects into successful startups.

Almost any business idea on this podcast is related to the internet, and even if many of this startups are technology companies, not all their founders have a CS degree under their arms.

Many of them learned to code by googling every question they had, some started as script kiddies meanwhile others joined free courses like FreecodeCamp to learn the ropes.

In the end doesn’t matter what they did, because their companies are the prove that starting an internet business without VC money and by keeping your day job is possible.

An internet company has more growth potential than any physical business you may think about it, and with the continuous improvement of the technology is becoming cheaper each year.

I’m not lying, you can check the numbers behind the operating costs for Nomadlist, Hubstaff, Quu and many other open startups on baremetrics.

If you don’t have savings to kickstart your entrepreneurship journey, AWS is giving away free credits for college students and new startups.

Also, many cloud services have a free tier available for new makers like Heroku, and the unlimited free tier of AWS.

For hosting media files (photos and videos) you can rent a cheap space on Digital Ocean with +250GB which is enough to host almost +10K photos of your users and you only have to pay $5/month.

Do you think that web domains are an expensive investment?
If you don’t want to pay $10 USD for a .com domain because you are not sure if the product will become profitable, then you can go to NameCheap and buy a cheap domain for only $0.82 (82 cents of a dollar) with 1 year of WhoIsGuard included.

Is SSL expensive?
Create your own SSL certificate with Let’s Encrypt and host it by yourself.

Is that too complicated for you?
Go to CloudFlare and transfer your domain to their DNS servers in a less than a minute, you get a free universal SSL and DDOS protection, plus much other stuff that I don’t even know what to do with them.

There are no excuses to no start an internet business today.

And I’m pretty sure that in the future, the internet is going to be so saturated with new products that you will wish to have started today.
