Article (Content Strategy)
Let’s Talk About How to Create a Content Strategy (3.9k claps on Medium!)
A really great article by Felicia C. Sullivan on how to create your content strategy.
She covers six essential questions you need to ask before you start creating content.
- Do you know your objectives?
- Do you have a solid brand platform?
- Do you know your customers?
- Do you know what your customers care about?
- Do you know what channels they’re on?
- Do you have the resources to bring your story to the masses?
She explains the details of how to go about answering these questions, including beautiful infographics and customer journey explanations.
Case study (Infographic humor)
A case study on using data, excel, and humor to create entertaining (and educational!) content.
Content breakdown:
- Message — “How many times user Slurpieslurp (on Reddit) has peed and pooped in 2018.” Yes, that’s it, that’s the message…
- Purpose — To educate and entertain.
- Audience — People interested in Quantified self (bowel) movement ;)
- Format — Image / Infographic
- Channel — Reddit (658 upvotes)
What I like about it:
- A lot of data, but distilled down in one clear overview.
- The fact that someone took the time to track their restroom visits for a year!
Takeaways:
- There is no lack of data if you get creative about it.
- Say you want to build a portfolio (as an artist, writer, videographer, business owner in need of content, etc.), then you can generate your own content in so many ways.
- User Slurpieslurp took this to a whole new level and really persisted in diligently tracking his bowel movements!
Product/Service (CaaS)
I came across ‘Audience Ops. ‘ Which is a “Content as a Service” (CaaS) company.
They provide high-quality blog articles (and podcasts) for businesses that want to outsource their content creation.
Seeing excellent content as something that is increasingly becoming more important, I think more productized services like these will pop up.
Maybe you can even start your own!
To think about
I believe this is a lovely quote to think about, which is in line with the thought of, “Help people, help people, help people.”
“Create content that reaches your audience’s audience.”

Concluding
I hope you liked this issue of Content Weekly. If you have any questions or feedback, just click ‘reply.’ I’ll be happy to hear from you.
By the way, I am thinking about creating a ‘checklist for good content.’
The idea is that you can go through the list when creating content to make sure you check as many boxes before you put your creations into the world.
