Microsoft just announced it’s getting rid of saved passwords in its Authenticator app starting August 2025. As reported by Forbes

That means if you rely on it for auto-filling your passwords, it's time to find out new ways to protect your accounts.

First of all, let’s find out what the details are.

Why Is This Happening?

Let’s be honest… Passwords are… outdated. Vulnerable. Easily guessed. Often reused. And most of us are terrible at keeping them secure.

A recent report by CNET shows that 50% of Americans still use risky password habitsreusing old ones, sharing them, even going with classics like “123456” or “password.” (No judgment if you’re one of them.)

So, now Microsoft (and Google, too, by the way) has had enough. They’re moving toward something better: passkeys.

What Are Passkeys?

Think of passkeys as your fingerprint or face scan—something only you have.
