Every day after dinner, my family used to watch the prime-time PTV drama together, and then the 9:00 PM news bulletin used to be a daily routine for my father.

My grandmother would tell stories of the times of independence of 1947, my parents would talk about their day, and we kids would listen, laugh, and ask endless questions.

Conversations were deep, real, and unfiltered.

Fast forward to today.

Families still sit together—but in silence.

Everyone is busy on their phones, kids are lost in their homework, cartoons, coaching, and conversations have been replaced with scrolling.

We live in the same house but in different worlds. Sad, isn’t it?

The irony? We have more ways to communicate than ever before—WhatsApp, social media, video calls—but real conversations have died.

Recently, I visited a friend’s house.

A beautiful, luxurious home. But something felt off. His parents were in one room watching TV, his siblings were in their rooms on their phones, and he was busy…
