People say Email Marketing is dead. Yeah, I laugh at them.

If you feel the same, then I’m sorry for you too.

Anirban Das sharing his first Atomic Essay

Well, this is Day 1 of the 30-day Atomic Essay challenge by the ‘Hustle with Ad’ community. Shagufta (my business partner) and I are organizing it, and we have 10 writers who are also writing with us.

Today, I’m talking about the 101 of Email Marketing.

If you ask me how important Email Marketing is, then I’ll ask you to keep it at the top of the list.

The only channel that will never run dry.

The only channel that gives you the privilege to connect with your prospects 1:1.

The only channel you own.

Email Marketing is the best way to reach out to potential customers and keep nurturing the existing ones. No, there are no criteria — whether it’s a small, medium, or big business, everyone needs it.

You just need to write good copy, segment the list properly, customize the email campaign, press send, and voila, you’re done.

But I know it’s not as easy as it sounds, so what do you need to do?

  1. Build your ‘ideal’ email list

While building your email list, remember that many people will never buy from you. So, focus on acquiring subscribers who can benefit from your emails and are likely to buy.

2. The subject line is the decider

Your subject line determines whether anyone will open your email, so make it catchy. Try to use their name (e.g., {{first_name}}) in the subject line — spend extra time writing it. (When you add the name, engagement goes up.)

3. Personalization

Let’s say you love pineapple pizza, and I offer you Dark Chocolate would you love it? Goddamn, no! So, whenever you do email campaigns, make sure you’re personalizing them for the individual, not for the masses.

4. CTA (Call to Action)

Listen, I know you see thousands of ads every day, and each one asks you to take action. If they don’t ask you to buy or preorder, will you do anything? No, right? So, similarly, in your Email Marketing, make sure you’re asking your audience to do something, like replying to the email or purchasing a course.

5. Segmentation

Imagine I asked you to sign up for my emails because I promised you an eBook, but then I sent you my grocery list — wouldn’t you be upset?

Similarly, in your Email Marketing, make sure you segment your list and satisfy the reason they signed up.

6. Track KPIs

Email Marketing is a numbers game, just like other digital marketing niches. You need to track metrics like open rates, click rates, engagement, unsubscribe rates, bounce rates, and more.

7. Never spam

I repeat, never spam. Never buy email lists, and never send emails without consent. It harms your sender's reputation, and in the future, it could prevent you from sending emails. No one wants unwanted emails — not even you.

Well, that’s it. That’s the basics and everything of Email Marketing.

Hope you found value in this!

I will see you tomorrow on day 2.
