Goal Setting: The First Step of Your Content Marketing Strategy
Your content is a waste without a goal
Before you start creating content to attract people and form relationships, you need to have a few goals set for your business.
Without goals, all your marketing efforts are in vain. You’ll be in the same place if you don’t know where you want to be 2 years from now on, for example.
Setting goals gives you that direction. And without a clear direction, you can’t get the best results. Plus, you can always tweak your goals as you go.
Suppose you’re a relationship coach and want to get more clients, your content needs to attract people who need your help. For example, you set a goal to get 10 new clients in the next three months by writing blog posts that answer common relationship questions.
How to Set Goals for Your Business?
- Start with Your Big Picture
Think about what you want to achieve with your relationship business. Do you want to grow your audience, build a community, or sell more courses?
2. Break Down Your Goal into Small Steps
For instance, if your bigger goal is to grow your audience, one smaller goal could be to increase your blog traffic by 20% in the next three months.
3. Make It Measurable
Your goals should be measurable so you can track progress. Instead of saying, “I want more clients,” try, “I want to gain 10 new clients through my blog within three months.”
4. Align Content with Your Goals
If you want new clients, write posts that show your expertise and solve common relationship issues, like “5 Communication Tips for Busy Couples.”
5. Set A Timeline
Give yourself a deadline to achieve each goal. For example, publish one high-quality blog post every week.
6. Be Flexible
If a particular type of content performs well, create more of such content. If what you’re creating doesn't work, change your strategy after a certain period.
It’s easy to lose focus without proper goals. Goals help you stay on track and ensure that your efforts give you results, whether that’s growing your audience, building trust, or increasing sales.
