Power of right questions

Communication and collaboration are one of the critical aspects of making. It is valid for building great software too. A high flow of information between the team members and customers occurs with the right communication.

Asking questions is the most powerful way to have meaningful conversations. Questioning comes naturally to children. All parents agree that. But as we grow up, we try to arrive at the answers than asking questions.

We don’t ask enough questions about our customers.

  • Why do our customers use our product?
  • How does our product/service help them achieve their needs?
  • What are their struggles while using our product/service?

These are embarrassing questions to ask. But if we don’t ask those, we don’t grow enough. And we stay in the comfort zone, believing that we know what our customers’ wants and needs are.

As developers, we don’t ask enough questions to understand the business we are in. We are in a hurry to convert the “requirement to code”. Assume when things are not clear. Redoing is okay because we can write more code. Doesn’t matter whether it is useful to the users.

Fundamental to Lean is asking the right questions. Asking the right questions helps to understand the purpose of the business, resulting in delighted customers and energised workers.
