In a recent announcement, Team Liquid are set to return to Heroes of the Storm (HotS), with a new roster. With Team Liquid having previously been a team that was feared in the HotS universe, will they be returning to reclaim their place as a top-ranked team?

Liquid Heroes disbanded in 2016

The team that was once known as “Misfits” make up the new roster for Team Liquid. Having played together before as a formidable team, Blumbi, Nurok, darkmok, Splendour, and HasuObs are set to take the HotS world by storm. The new team comes after Liquid Heroes was disbanded at the end of 2016. Despite having three great semi-final showings, and immense potential as a team, Liquid Heroes would not be able to field their winning roster for the Heroes Global Championship (HGC). With blue horse being unavailable to play, it was decided to follow better opportunities for all the team.

New team are one of Europe’s best

Their return to HotS with this new roster bodes well for Team liquid. The former Misfits squad were one of Europe’s best in 2016, with a second place at Katowice and a win at DreamHack Tours. The Misfits team kept up their consistent placements through the season, with their latest being a podium bronze at the Western Clash recently. With the Misfits ranked on the top of the Euro Pro-League Championship Phase the acquisition by Team Liquid is one that can benefit all. Their 7–0 record in HotS makes them a formidable team to handle.

Misfits fit in with Team liquid

The new team has expressed their gratitude for being given this opportunity. Team member, Blumbi, expressed his hopes for a bright future with the team, which he says share many of the same qualities as they do. Team Liquid is known for their consistency, professionalism, and dedication to their teams, and are top of their class in the eSports world. HasuObs said he was happy to be given this chance to play under their banner and was excited to be part of this new team. “I have known Victor and the whole team for a long time because of my roots in the StarCraft 2 community, and their work and commitment has always been exceptional,” he explained.

Several teams left HotS in 2016

Team Liquid dissolved all of its Heroes of the Storm division in December 2016 after the failure of the team to qualify in the HGC, and the team at the time entered free agency. They were not the only ones to pull out of HotS last year. Cloud9, G2 eSports, and Natus Vincere all disbanded their divisions through 2016, with several others dropping their rosters while still having an interest in the overall scene.

This return to Heroes of the Storm by Team liquid could be a smart move on their part since some of the major teams of last season are no longer in play. However, they will have to overcome some of the now-established mainstays such as Fnatic and Team Dignitas in order to make further inroads into the HotS top-ranked teams.
