Hammer’s eSports has sold its Overwatch team’s contracts to Luminosity Gaming (LG) for an as yet undisclosed amount. The new team will be rebranded as Luminosity Gaming Evil, while the original team will be rebranded as Luminosity Gaming Loyal.

Better stability is offered by LG

The new team — which consists of Jake “JAKE” Lyon, Rasheeq “train” Rahman, Matthew “Voll” Wallace, Matthew “super” DeLisi, Robert “rob420” Garcia and Connor “Avast” Prince — means that Canadian organization, LG, is now one of the first in the North American Overwatch league to maintain two teams. LG can offer the team better resources and stability, as well as more opportunity, than Hammer right now. “I don’t think anyone expected us to grow as fast as we did in terms of both our play and ranking,” said Avast of the move. The team will also sport a new color scheme on its jerseys. The new green look is in contrast to the normal white and blue of LG.

LG Evil at the top of the OCS

LG Evil are competing in the weekly Overwatch Carbon Series (OCS), alongside new sister team LG Loyal. Their recent wins over LG Loyal, Team Liquid, and complexity Gaming have seen them rise to the top of the league with an undefeated record. Avast and the rest of the team are excited to have joined LG and have a sister team made up of some of Overwatch’s top players. “I’m sure our team’s relationship with them will only grow stronger with this switch. I hope that with Luminosity’s support we can continue to grow as a team and be the best team in the world,” he concluded.

CEO impressed by team’s loyalty

CEO, Steve Maida, said he was very impressed by the team’s loyalty and “belief in one another”. “I think this specifically can be accredited to their success,” he continued. LG Evil, as Hammer’s eSports, took a first in the Alienware Overwatch Monthly Melee in January, and they recently beat Immortals, the Overwatch Winter Premiere champions, to complete their 5–0 winning streak.

Bench Boys lose two more players

Meanwhile, Bench Boys, the European Overwatch team, have lost another two players. The team appears to be disintegrating after losing Eric ‘TwoEasy’ van Hoorn, with the sudden departure of Jonathan ‘Kryw’ Nobre and Thomas ‘HAL’ Alvallone. Both have said that they are unable to continue to work with the owners, with little in the way of competition in Europe at the moment. And while some of the major teams like Team EnVyUs and Rogue have already made the move to the U.S., Bench Boys owners are not expressing the same interest in the move.

Many players are making the move to North America

With no likely teams in Europe at the moment, it may be that the two players will be looking at a move across the pond as well. Several North American teams have recruited top European players in recent months, with teams like Cloud9, Fnatic, FaZe, and team Liquid all adding Euro players to their rosters. And with the Overwatch League fast approaching, there may be other changes in the top teams as they update their rosters in preparation for the new league.
