Evil Geniuses (EG), the North American eSports team, announced on Friday, March 24 that it has signed Panda Global Rankings number 16 ranked player, Julian “Zinoto” Carrington. The signing is EG’s first move into the Super Smash Bros. For Wii U arena.

Zinoto signs hours before playing a tournament

Zinoto, who was set to play in the 2G Gaming (2GG) Championship: Civil War tournament last weekend, signed the agreement with EG just hours before he started playing in the Wii U tournament. This expands EG’s presence in eSports, adding to their teams in Smash Bros. Melee, Street Fighter V, and other fighting games. Zinoto is well known for his cool head and competitive attitude in the Smash arenas. He finished second in the CEO 2016 event and has had a very prolific career so far. He is currently well ranked in the present season, and a good result this season will give him a chance of a stable relationship with one of eSports biggest organizations.

Cram School is designed to help players improve

Zinoto is one of the few players to break out of Midwest local games into the international scene. With his Diddy character taking him to high placings at Frostbite 2017, CEO 2016, Smash ‘n Splash 2, Combo Breaker 2016 and the 2GGC: Midwest Mayhem Saga, he is set to be an advantageous signing for EG. He is also well known for his local work in Michigan, his home state, where he helps to improve the skills of the local players. And with his popular Cram School series of video tutorials on YouTube, he is having a big impact on the international scene in more ways than one. The videos show players how to overcome character match-ups that can cause problems in competitions, and have been a huge YouTube hit. His well-researched tutorials are informative and show excellent content creation skills — another big plus for EG, since good content creation by players is a huge attraction for the major eSports organizations.

Sharing his passion for eSports

In his statement, following the weekend’s play, Zinoto said, “The majority of a competitive scene does not consist of strong or top players; it consists of weaker ones usually looking to improve. I feel like everyone should have at least a few resources readily available to help them reach their goals.” According to him, this sponsorship by EG will mean he can reach an even bigger audience and share his knowledge and passion with more people than ever before.

First signing for new CEO of EG

Following the recent changes in the EG management structure, this is the first signing for new CEO, Peter “ppd” Dager. Dager has had his eye on the Smash scene for several months and feels that it is a unique arena compared to other fighting games. “I grew up playing Smash and am thrilled that we have the opportunity to pick up Zinoto, who I know will be an incredibly positive influence in the space,” he explained.

EG now boasts teams in Dota 2, Call of Duty, Halo, Smash 4, Smash Melee, and Street Fighter V. This makes them one of the most prolific organizations in international eSports.
