In 2021 owners of Africrypt disappeared with $3.6 billion worth of Bitcoin. At the time Bitcoin was valued at over $69,000 per coin. The South African brothers suddenly cashed out and disappeared. Making it the most significant scam ever seen in the digital currency world.

The website Africrypt reported a hacking, claiming all the funds were stolen. Leaving thousands of investors poor and making the brothers overnight billionaires.

Mr Cajee, the older brother, strangely enough, asked clients not to report the incident, as it would slow down their recovery. Unsurprisingly many were sceptical about this strange behaviour and hired attorneys to take legal action against Africrypt. Noone could contact the brothers, as both brothers’ mobile calls were redirected to voicemail. The website disappeared and staff members lost access. This happened seven days before the hack, a huge red flag. And finally, some people looked into the address of the office. Except there was no fancy office, it was a random address near some shops. Not what you’d expect for a billion-dollar company.

The attorneys found that Africrypt’s pooled funds were transferred from its South African accounts and client wallets, which went through tumblers…
