Flip through the book before you.

Images of God (for young children)
by Marie-Helene Delval (Author), Barbara Nascimbeni (Illustrator)

[You may not be able to read the entire book, for time sake, but look through as much as you can.]

It is tricky whenever we speak of God as “God is” — because we never really capture the fullness, the vastness, the boundless, the infinite, the invisible, the omni-natures of God in our language. But this book, while shooting for an audience with children — is likely super refreshing for us no matter our age.

Consider which “image” of God resonates with you most.

Circle the phrase that shimmers for you.

God is breath. God is light. God is night. God is the word. God is silence. God is secret. God is our tears. God is joy. God is a spring. God is a rock. God is a stream. God is the root. God is wind. God is a path. God is fire. God is a fortress. God is a promise. God is strength. God is wisdom. God is a covenant. God is delivery. God is a mystery. God is beauty. God is justice. God is holiness. God is peace. God is mercy. God is love. God is a shepherd. God is a king. God is a healer. God is a friend. God is a savior. God is majesty. God is smallness. God has a face. God is a parent. God is life. God is with us.

Think about the way in which you have, personally, experienced this “image” of God?

Write.

Take a moment and write a prayer of gratitude for this one “image” you have been aware of.

Let this be an encouragement to keep your heart and eyes open for God in the many ways the Divine may be present.

“God comes to you disguised as your life.” — Paula D’Arcy
