With over a decade of experience in managing staff, day to day operations and millions of revenue dollars for Corporate organizations, Terra Fontenot-Beard offers a unique blend of leadership, expertise and knowledge. She has established an entrepreneurial platform as a triple-threat entrepreneur, 2x author, mental health advocate and an accounting and business operations outsourcing consultant at Fontenot & Associates Solutions, LLC, as the founder. The formation of her outsourcing firm is help improve the success rate and longevity of small business owners and leaders. Her passion to make a difference ignited the aspirational launch of The Cookie Box Beauty Supply Store, an online hair, skin and beauty supply store. This is an online community hair and beauty supply store and offers products for women, men and families. Terra is currently the co-founder of Sisters Doing More, a business platform that educates and empowers women, children and families within the community to become mentally and financially healthy.Terra has been recognized in many blog features for her accounting and business knowledge for other business leaders and influencers. Through assignment of various roles, Terra has been able to take her hands-on experiences to cut cost, reallocate manpower to developing real-time accounting and an updated organization system for small to mid-sized business alike. In 2016, Terra was recognized as one of the Courageous Business Women Who Take Charge in Courageous Woman magazine.

Now if we can, I’d like to go way back for a little while. Where did you grow up? What was it like to grow up in Galveston, Texas?
I grew up in a small town of Galveston, Texas. Growing up in Galveston was a bit of an adventure in which I moved around a lot and ended up living with my grandmother to finish high school. We only had one public high school, thus everyone went to the same school. Football games, beaches and seafood was much of my young years and small town. I am the oldest out of my four siblings and while I graduated from high school, I was a young parent.

What inspired your entrepreneurial journey ?
Growing up the goal was to get my degree and find a good job but early on I’m not sure I realized I had the entrepreneurial bug. It started with filing taxes since Accounting was my major and jam. This was a journey that lasted for years and led to many other experiences.

Tell me about what problem your business solves?
Fontenot Solutions is a uniquely designed accounting and business operations outsourcing firm for service-based business that focuses on giving business owners back their time, improving process inefficiencies and increasing revenue. We provide a solutions that allows business owners and leaders to focus more on working on the business than working in the business.

What do you define as failure?
I define failure as a roadblock, an obstruction in a road. When I hit roadblocks I take time to rethink the path, reset the GPS and continue to strive towards my journey.

What have you felt you have failed at? What might you have done to prevent those failures?
I feel that I failed at my initial launch into entrepreneurship. I stepped in with my eyes wide open and everything that I saw was working for someone else, I thought I need to do as well. In addition, I didn’t have a plan. I failed myself by not putting a plan in place to provide a path towards success and financial stability.

What kind of impact do you want your service to leave on your client?
I want my services to provide solutions that will build financially sound businesses that create independence and freedom for business leaders.

What is your why? Why you did you start your journey?
My why is freedom. I am building an outsourcing firm that will provide solutions to businesses across the world. We will not only make it possible for business owners to reach success in freedom and finances, it will allow the same for my family and legacy.

What hurdles did you personally face and how did you overcome them?
I have personally faced hurdles of business marketing and positioning. I have been able to overcome them by revisiting my business plan and mission.

Do you feel your product met the needs of the market at the time of conception? Does it still?
Yes, I believe my services were necessary at the time of conception and still are. The services we provide are critical to the longevity of businesses and their leaders.

When did you realize entrepreneurship was right for you?
I realized entrepreneurship was right for me when I realized how much of my time, skills and experience were not valued in a Corporate environment. After taking my values and using them to help small businesses not only compete with Corporate leaders but also scale financially, I just knew entrepreneurship was right for me.

What advice do you have for entrepreneurs and small business owners who may not be achieving their goals?
My advice for entrepreneurs and small business owners who may not be achieving their goals is to create or revisit the business plan. The daily grind will feel overwhelming and a waste of time because the chase may feel endless. Create the plan for reaching your ideal clients and generating revenue necessary to build a successful business.

What are you most excited or passionate about? (In both business and life or both)
I am passionate about the creativity I bring to entrepreneur world. I’m excited that my purpose allows me to evolve “creatively” in life and business. I love the evolution I see in my work and myself.

What are the goals you most want to accomplish in your business? What are the goals that you hold personally?
My goals are to become the number one accounting and business operations outsourcing firm for business leaders worldwide. I want to provide an outsourcing solutions that helps start-up business in their first year. My firm will also educate and be an intern resource for college graduates. Personally, my goal is to continue to grow out of my comfort zone, build a collaborative circle and be a voice for the voiceless.

Did you have any key mentors or people who deeply influenced who you are, what you believe in and what you’re committed to in your work and life? Tell me about them.
A key mentor to my journey started with a teacher in high school who believed in me and supported my emotional imbalance. She spent time with me and that made a huge difference in my future. I didn’t grow up with much family support but it burned a fire in me to never give up even when the road seemed impossible.

Did you have any life-changing experiences that put you on the path that led you to be doing what you’re doing today? Tell me about them.
Life-changing experiences that led me to do what I’m doing today was being laid off from a job I was giving my all to. I couldn’t believe the betrayal but I definitely opened my eyes to what I had been giving up and “who” I was doing it for. I want my sacrifices to be more meaningful and offer a better future for my legacy.

What’s next for you in your business? What can readers look forward to from you?
Our firm is striving to provide more options to outsourcing as well as build an online platform that will give our startups and business leaders the free resources, education and tools needed to be successful. This platform will set our firm apart and while providing additional solutions for our clients.

Is there anything else you would like to share with me?
We love what we do. We have a purpose for what we do. We are building to make an impact and difference for our upcoming leaders and game changers.
