About Maia
Maia is a non-binary femme (pronouns: they/them/theirs) writer, activist, and budding artist. They live in Cleveland, OH with their fiancé, Jon. Maia works as a Direct Support Professional in a home for people with developmental disabilities. They are now the director and writer for Convivial Culture.
Maia grew up practicing the arts, attending public arts magnet schools in Jacksonville, Florida. They began playing the violin at seven-years-old, then trained in classical, folk, pop, and improvisational music through their first year of college. Maia has written poetry and stories since they can remember. They began journalism in high school.
Maia’s educational achievements include a H.S. diploma with a Fine Arts Seal from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, a B.A. with double majors in Cognitive Science and Medical Anthropology from Case Western Reserve University, and a M.A. in Bioethics and Medical Humanities from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and Graduate Studies. Maia completed their graduate program with a 4.0 GPA.
Maia has recently contributed as a Research Assistant to The Empire of Depression: A New History by Dr. Jonathan Sadowsky, Castele Professor of Medical History at Case Western Reserve University.
