Week 129: Frozen Pizza

Sometimes you can’t do a big production. That’s okay!

Each Sunday, my wife and I cook and eat a meal together — intentionally. Every Friday, I’ll be sharing our experience here in this space. I want to see the growth that will come in our marriage because of this. I hope you enjoy our story. You can find last week’s post here.

You ever feel like life has knocked you down one too many pegs? I think we all understand that we need to be humbled from time to time, but there’s a point where it just feels like overkill. I’m writing this on a day when the starter in my wife’s car gave out while our other car is still in the shop. Yeah, it’s frustrating. But you know what? Most people in this world don’t have one car, let alone two. So even major problems fade a bit in perspective.

But that doesn’t change the fact that they’re frustrating in the moment.

Sarah and I are about to have dinner — gluten free frozen pizza. It reminds me of a couple Sundays ago when we had the same meal.

Tried and True

We all have those days when we feel like we’re at the end of our rope. We don’t have any more strength to give. We’re tired. We’re worn out. We’re just done.

Those are the days to make frozen pizza.

Sarah and I both love pizza. With her gluten allergy, you might think pizza would be a tough option to find. But pizza is actually one of the gluten-free foods that’s really good. We’ve even found a few gluten-free frozen pizzas that we love. And so, on days like this, we really enjoy grabbing a pizza from the freezer, putting it in the oven, setting the timer, and sitting down to a relaxed dinner together. Is it flashy? No, but it’s our classic.

When you’re having a day, just go back to the classics. Go back to those tried and true things and hit the reset button. Take some of the pressure off of yourself. You don’t have to be on all the time.

To add a little extra to the experience, Sarah had me spring for the triple meat pizza instead of the pepperoni. Oh, the simple joys!

Just Breathe

Whatever you’re going through, give yourself an opportunity to take a breath and feel what you’re feeling. Those feelings are valid, and you’re worth it. The struggle is tough in the moment, but you’re definitely worth it.

How is this about frozen pizza? Well, I guess it’s just that fact that there are days where you simply can’t make the three-course meal. You can’t do the big production. That’s okay. Take a breath and give yourself a break.

Because you might just have another one of those days a couple weeks down the road. Give yourself a frozen pizza break when you can.

Wishing you all the best no matter what you’re going through. If you’re like Sarah and me, this long weekend couldn’t have come at a better time. Take time for yourself and those you love. We wish you the best as you enjoy simple moments with those you love!
